What makes the BMW replacement key so pricey?

Since 1995, BMWs have had immobilizer units installed in all makes and models. The immobilizer unit is an added security feature that prevents the car from being switched on unless it recognizes the transponder chip that lives in the key fob. This transponder chip is what prevents the car from being broken into and stolen.

Rekeying the locks are a great way to ensure that your home is secured, and is relatively inexpensive compared to changing the locks.

What does rekeying a lock mean?

When we rekey locks, it simply means to change the pin tumbler. This tumbler inside the cylinder of the lock and uses pins of various length to keep to lock from being opened unless you have the right key. We rekey the tumbler of the pre-existing lock so it will accept a new key, the process is relatively simple. First, we replace some of the lock pins found in the cylinder, this will change the tumbler. Next, we cut new keys that will open your rekeyed lock. Once the lock has been rekeyed, the old keys will no longer work.
